I'm a neutral girl through to the core. When describing the colours in my home, I'd probably use the phrases ' off white', 'slightly grey', 'hint of purple', 'touch of green'....you get the picture. Neutral shades are sophisticated, blend well together and make any home look relaxing and homely.

I won't drone on any longer about how much I love neutral shades. I am starting to sound like that women who talks too much about her cat (spoiler alert - that's also me...). Whilst I love that neutral colours make homes brighter and cleaner, even I think that there can be too much of a good thing.

Despite being dubbed the 'Monica' of my friendship group, I actually have to work at staying organised. I have a rough routine that helps me to stay on top of things and makes organising and getting things done much more fun for me. As I have said before, not everyone will be as enthused as me about organising but hopefully these tips will make getting organised just that little bit easier for you.

These types of posts may not be everyone's cup of tea (the food related puns are starting already), but I really enjoy reading other peoples 'What I Ate Wednesday' posts and watching their vlogs as it motivates me to try new recipes and opens my eyes to meals I hadn't thought to make before!

I was working from home today which meant I had a little more flexibility and freedom to make lunch when I needed it as opposed to having to prepare it in the morning. When I am in the office, I am more of a grazer and eat small things throughout the day, but when I am at home I tend to have proper breaks and actual meals and snacks.
I think it's quite therapeutic to clear my head and really narrow down what's most important for me to achieve this month. I am hoping that it will help me stay on track and also help me to set realistic goals that I am likely to achieve.
As I've said before, I am getting married this year and have really been enjoying all of the wedding planning, little details and being a bride to be. We are about 6 months away from the big day and there's still a lot to do. I have gotten a lot of help from a number of bridal magazines that give a step by step 12 month countdown and give you an indication of what to do at what stage. I thought I would do my own mini series sharing with you all what I have done to date and what I've still got left to do.

I had thought about writing these posts after our wedding was over when I have an idea of everything that had gone to plan and things that I would have changed. However, I feel that by writing them at the time I'll be able to remember all of the detail and what I have done stage by stage.
It's that time of year again - lighter evenings, warmer days, flowers all around.......and apparently the prime time for cleaning. When I was younger I remember my mum setting off on a frenzy of crazed cleaning about twice a year. Every ornament would be off the shelves and soaking in some kind of soap solution, we'd be cleaning under the sofa, dusting cobwebs off the ceiling and de-cluttering everything we owned. I swore to my mother that I'd never spend my time cleaning or worrying about de-cluttering and sorting things out when I had my own home. Fast forward 15 years and I'm not ashamed to admit that cleaning and organising are probably one of my favourite hobbies (feels really sad to write down but it's true!)
I tend not to do the whole twice a year manic deep clean and I prefer to do little bits throughout the year and generally stay on top of organising and cleaning so that things don't get too unmanageable. After a long winter of wearing mainly uggs, jeans and a chunky cardigan, I decided to go through my wardrobe to organise it. Here are the steps I took that might help you too:
Sometimes we just need to get away. You don't need to have anything to get away from to enjoy a weekend break, but it's always nice to take a break from your usual surroundings and routines. You only need to take a few days away from your busy schedule to feel rejuvenated.

Like most people, I am not as happy in winter as I am in Summer and so I like to plan fun things to do in the winter to keep my spirits up. My friends and I visited center parcs at the Longleat forest at the start of March which was perfect. The weather wasn't too cold but also meant that the village was relatively quiet as it wasn't in school holidays and most people tend not to go for an outdoors holiday in winter!

The weekend was full of great food, fun activities, fantastic company and a much needed dose of relaxation. I've moved about 2 1/2 hours away from where I grew up so I don't often get the spend quality time with my childhood and school friends. I really value the time I get to spend with my friends on our annual trip to center parcs and getting the chance to share meals together, play games and genuinely have fun.
When you have a heavy workload or a busy schedule it can sometimes seem impossible to take time out for yourself and have a few days off when you could use that time to finish your tasks. Regardless of how busy I think I am, I always allow myself a break every now and again and I feel so much more productive for it. It gives me a fresh burst of motivation and energy which I can then focus on the work I need to do.

I am getting married this year which is extremely exciting and has opened my eyes to the world that is wedding planning. I still have quite a bit of time before <strike>my</strike> our big day and I've only recently began to finalise our wedding colours and palette.

Paint samples are a great way to visualise potential wedding colours

I am no expert but I always find it helpful and interesting to read other peoples wedding plans and how they made their decisions etc. There are a few things that I considered when choosing wedding colours that would probably help others as well:

1) Personal style

For me this is probably the most important aspect. I want to look back at my wedding day and know that the day reflected my own style and not just what the most popular colour was. If your absolute favourite colour is orange, try and incorporate that into your palette and just go for what you love.

2) Location

The venue we are having our reception at has quite a neutral feel to it and so bright or cold colours would have looked a bit out of place. Think about your venue and its style and take this into consideration when choosing your colours.

3) Season

This ones pretty self explanatory. Lighter more subtle colours may work better in summer and spring whereas darker and fuller tones may suit an autumn or winter wedding. Although, in the grand scheme of things, it really doesn't matter. Back to point number 1 - do what makes you happy and choose something you love.

After taking into consideration these points, the first thing I did was to do some research. With the help of Pinterest, bridal magazines, Instagram and even photographs from friends weddings, I was able to narrow down on a general theme. I'm a neutral girl at heart and I know that I wanted a subtle, calm and warm feel from my wedding colours.

After a lot of research online, I was struggling to find the perfect colours (even though I knew exactly what I wanted in my head). I decided to go to B&Q and look at all of the paint samples that they have. This meant I was able to narrow down on the exact shades I wanted and pick up the colour tabs for the vibe I was going for.

As my family are helping me make a few things for the wedding, I was also able to pick up extra colour tabs to give to them so that they knew exactly what my wedding colours are too. Visualising the colours and having them all together in my hand really helped me to decide.

All in all, go with what you love and what best expresses your personality and style. Your guests will love whatever colour you go for and you'll want to look back at your day knowing that you went with your heart.

I'll be writing a lot more wedding planning posts and will probably continue after the wedding looking back in hindsight. Let me know if any of you are getting married this year or have recently got married - I love hearing about other peoples plans and seeing pictures of their big day.

Enjoy your planning

As usual, I am a bit late to the whole new year new me thing....but who says you can't start some resolutions in March. I have never really made any New Years resolutions, mainly because I have the willpower of a two year old. But this year, I wanted to make some positive changes, and what better time to start than at spring.

1) Waste less time and do more of what makes me happy
I spend endless hours wasting time in the digital world, be it TV or Internet. Whilst I enjoy these things and they can help me unwind and relax , I need to do so in moderation. My time could be much better spent focusing on other things that make me happy.

I want to play my piano more, go on walks, spend more time cooking yummy meals and trying out new things that I "haven't got time for". I am going to start by having one 'digital free' evening and seeing how much time I am wasting and how better my time could be spent. I'll probably blog about it so watch this space.

2) Make healthier lifestyle choices

I am going to be realistic with myself from the start and accept the fact that I will not be a fitness fanatic marathon runner anytime soon. But what I am going to do is cut down on my sugar intake (which I have been successfully doing so far!), exercise more ( and by more I mean actually start....), and start thinking more about my eating habits and keeping active.

3) Improve my French

The one skill I wish I had was to speak French. The language is so beautiful to listen to and is something that I've always been drawn to. Whilst I can tell you what my favourite subject at school is and ask where the nearest toilets are, it's not really enough to hold a basic conversation (thank you GCSE french)!

My Fiancé and I are going to Paris in May so that's an incentive for me to improve my basic vocabulary.

4) Blog more

Hopefully by sticking to my first resolution, I'll have more free time to do more of what I enjoy. I find it quite relaxing to sit down and write a blog post and it's really nice to look back and read old entries. It's sort of like a public journal and it would be nice to have more memories to look back on.

By writing my resolutions in a blog post, I am hoping that I will be kept more accountable and it will actually be a nice record of what I hope 2017 will hold. Here's to an exciting year ahead!

What were your new year resolutions or hopes for the rest of 2017?

You don't need to spend lots of money (or any money at all) in order to give or be charitable. Regular donations to your favourite charity are great, but if you're budget is tight or you want other ways to give to charity, here are a few of my favourite ways to give back.

1. Set up a regular donation.

If there's room in your budget, one of the best ways to help your favourite charity is to set up a regular donation. This helps charities to have financial security and helps them spend less money on fundraising campaigns meaning more money to help those in need.

But as I said, you don't need to spend extra money in order to give....

2. Ask for or give a charity gift this Christmas
Many charities offer 'charity gifts' which means instead of buying somebody a gift, you donate money to your chosen charity on their behalf.

These types of presents are perfect for people who say they don't want any gifts e.g. most grandparents!

These gifts are also wonderful to receive. In the modern day many people have everything they need and more and so to receive a charity gift is a wonderful way for your nearest and dearest to let you know they are thinking of you whilst also benefiting those is need.

Since the age of about 15, I have asked for one of these gifts on my Christmas list which I think as a teenage helped remind me of how lucky I was, especially at Christmas time. Many charities including WaterAid, Oxfam and Unicef (to name a few), offer these charity gifts.

3. Volunteer your time

Not everyone has money to spare, but everyone has time to spare, even if it is just one hour. Through donating your time, you can help people directly. You could volunteer at a local charity shop, homeless shelter, local school, fundraising campaign and many more

Radio 1 are currently promoting their one million hours campaign asking listeners to donate their time throughout 2016. Why not take part and pledge your time in 2016.

4. Volunteer your time on a regular basis

Regular volunteers are a blessing and also a necessity to charities. Most charities in the UK wouldn't be able to thrive without the help of regular volunteers.

I am a Brownie guide leader which involves giving up about 2 hours of my time a week. It's great fun and when the girls leave Brownies feeling happy, it is very rewarding. It is hard work on times but a really fun way to volunteer your time.

5. Have a clear out and donate unwanted items

The best time to clear out your house is just after Christmas. Everybody has received many lovely new presents and is often struggling for places to put them away. Whether it's clothes you've grown out of or no longer need, charity shops will be so thankful for your donation.

Even better, why not have a sort through your things before the Christmas frenzy so that you'll have plenty of room for your lovely new gifts.

6. Give Blood

One of the most underestimated and overlooked ways to give is to give blood . Stocks are often lower over the Christmas period yet the need is just as high. Giving blood is quick, easy and can save a life!

7. Charity starts at home

You don't have to work with a registered charity to give at Christmas and as the famous saying goes 'charity starts at home'. At Christmas time especially, people are often very busy, stressed and rushed off their feet. You could offer to look after a friend or family members children for an evening, or offer to do the dishes after Christmas lunch. The list of ways to help at home is endless and any help will definitely be very well received.

Other ways to give could be buying charity Christmas cards or holding a charity Christmas bake sale. Do you have any different ways of giving at Christmas time?
The buildings, the food, the culture, the beaches and of course the weather.....there is so much to love about Barcelona. My boyfriend and I planned a fairly last minute five day trip there in the first week of September and I am so glad we did.

We arrived late on the Sunday night and took the aero bus to the city centre thinking that we would struggle to find somewhere to eat at 11:30pm. Oh we were wrong - the restaurants were full and bustling with people which we were very thankful for. It took some adjustment for us Brits who usually eat fairly early but the food was worth waiting for. We had tapas on our first night and mainly every night thereafter. The food is delicious and relatively cheap, and the Sangria wasn't too bad either.....

We spent our days sightseeing, walking around the city, relaxing on the beach, eating delicious food and enjoying each others company. We wanted to enjoy our time in Barcelona whilst still managing to see and do all of the things we wanted to. Five days was the perfect amount of time for us as we didn't come back from holiday exhausted and worn out but didn't feel like we had missed anything.

Here are a few of the things we enjoyed the most and would recommend:

Parc Güell is beautiful and has amazing views of the city. The colours and the detail are incredible and highlights the fantastic work of Gaudi.

The cable car ride up to Parc Montjuic is perfect when you've walked all day and has even more amazing views of the city. There's definitely no shortage of fantastic city views in Barcelona.

Bicycle hire was a must for us (6 euros for two hours!) . We cycled along the coast from barceloneta beach to Leneva beach. We got to explore a little bit more of the coast and very much appreciated the cool breeze as we cycled in the heat.

There's something very special about cities; European cities especially. The architecture, culture and history is so apparent. I grew up in a small town and I think that's why I am intrigued by cities - even though I now work in London quite regularly I still get so excited by the buzz and the busyness of the city. I definitely have a few more European city breaks on my to go list!!

My main goal or motto that I strive to live by is to do what makes me happy. I spent years of my life not doing things that made me happy simply because I thought other people would think I was weird. I love singing in choirs and classical music and have done since I was maybe eight, but I never used to tell people because I was embarrassed. Now I have learnt that people really don't care what your hobbies are or what you do as long as you're happy and aren't hurting anybody. In fact, people are genuinely quite interested if you have a not so average hobby! Fast forward ten years, I am so happy to finally do what I want without caring about if people like it or not.

The same comes for the 'blogging world'. I have noticed that some people post about things they think people will like or follow as opposed to what they want to post or write. I just really enjoy sharing what makes me happy and if nobody reads it, likes my photo or follows me, then that's okay. If you want to write about your favourite shade of eyeshadow, good for you. If I want to write about my favourite type of washing up liquid, good for me (although thankfully I am not THAT boring yet....).

After years being a self concious teenager, it feels so great to do what makes me happy and not feel embarrassed about it. I was speaking to a very good friend of mine recently about this and how we really enjoy being confident enough in ourselves to do whatever makes us happy.

If you have a blog and find yourself writing about things you're really not passionate about, try writing about things that matter to you and you'll probably find it a lot more enjoyable to write. Do what makes you happy :)

"This one time in America" "When I was in America".........If you know me, you are probably sick of me starting sentences like this. I studied abroad in Rhode Island (USA) for 4 1/2 months in 2012 during the autumn term of my final year of university and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I am such an advocate for studying abroad - If you ever get the opportunity to study abroad, do it! I am going to share a few of my pictures and memories of my time in the US and reasons why I think studying abroad is great.

I managed to pick my schedule very carefully so that I only had class on Tuesday - Thursday, leaving long weekends for optimum travelling. I managed to do so many fun things - trips to Washington DC, Atlantic City NJ, Boston, Canada, New York....and so much more!

New York City in November -such a clear day and a beautiful view from the Empire State Building. My boyfriend came to visit me half way through the term and as NYC is only 4 hours from Rhode Island we spent a week in the city. A distant relative has an apartment in NYC which he kindly let us stay in so we got to live like real newyorkers in the upper east side. New York is one of my favourite cities.

A few weeks in to my time in Rhode Island I got the chance to travel to Boston with the other international students and go to a real life baseball game - as a British girl who has only ever seen baseball on tv, this was beyond exciting. I can't remember the score and I didn't really catch much of the rules but I do remember eating hotdogs, peanuts and cracker jacks whilst singing 'Take me out to the ball gaaaaaame'. Oh, and we all bought foam fingers (typical tourists)!

You've seen a few of my memories - why should you study abroad?

You make friends from all over the world.Sharing such memorable experiences with new people helps form a really close bond and a friendship that I will cherish for a lifetime. I have friends in Norway, France and Canada who I am so lucky to have met.

Studying abroad is such a unique experience. You get to spend 4 months experiencing new things and living life to the full without having to take time off work or university to do so.

It looks great on your CV - studying abroad shows that you're adaptable, determined, willing........and all those 'Buzz words' that employers love to hear.

Every weekend is an adventure.

Don't ask yourself why should I study abroad, ask yourself why not? I encourage you all to speak to your professors and see if you're able to study abroad! Let me know if you have or are thinking about studying abroad. I love to hear other peoples experiences :)

In my search for baby soft skin, I picked up the Soap & Glory No Clogs Allowed Super Self Heating Deep Pore Detox Mask (what a mouthful!). I have only tried a few self heating face masks before and I have never really been a big fan. They tend to leave my skin red and slightly irritated and so I was rightfully quite apprehensive about trying this.

No Clogs Allowed Self Heating Mask - RRP £11.50

You apply a grape sized amount of the product to your dry face and massage all over (obviously avoiding the sensitive eye area) and then wet your hands and massage over again. This turns the face mask from white to blue and activates the self heating aspect of the mask. After 5 minutes you remove the mask and voila, your skin is smooth and less clogged. It really is quite clever - and I am such a sucker for 'cool' or 'clever' skincare products!

The warming effect of this mask felt comforting and like it was actually doing work without feeling like you're having a harsh chemical face peel (like some of the previous warming face masks I have tried). Most face masks I have tried have also made my skin feeling really tight and dry once I removed it, however, my skin doesn't feel dry at all and so it is definitely one I am going to use again.

I was really impressed with this product - my skin wasn't at all irritated and after I removed the mask my face felt so soft. I have combination skin and judging from first impressions, this mask has worked really well for me. I would definitely recommend trying this and it is relatively inexpensive compared to some of the other self warming clay based face masks on the market.

Let me know which face masks work well for you :)

xxx

Spring is finally here, and it seems to have arrived rather unexpectedly.....on Monday I was scraping ice off my windscreen before work and today I went for a run in the sun in shorts and a T-shirt! I have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of warmer weather so that I can ditch my big grey coat and scarf and start to wear more summery clothes.

This outfit is really simple and comfy but looks really put together. I have long legs in comparison with my body so it's sometimes hard to find skirts that aren't really short, however, this skirt is the perfect length for me. High waisted skirts and blouses are a great combination and can be worn during the day with boots (as shown) or in the night with heels and a blazer.

If you follow me on Instagram or twitter then you'll know that I've spent the past week in France visiting a friend who I met when I studied abroad. I really enjoy visiting France and if any of you have never been, I highly recommend taking a visit. I got an overnight ferry form Portsmouth to St Malo for just £50 return so it is really inexpensive! I had such a lovely time exploring Brittany with her and ate enough macaroons, cheese and bread to last me a lifetime.

Apart from the travelling itself, one of the most exciting things for me is packing, especially my travel makeup/beauty bag - purely because travel sized products are so cute. I love picking which items I'm going to take away with me and I really enjoy using products that I usually wouldn't have time to use during a normal week e.g. face masks/deep treatment. If you're nosey like me and like to see which items other people take away with them, I have listed my essentials below :)

I don't tend to wear makeup every day of the week (I love sleep too much!), but when I do get up on time, this is my go to look. My everyday products stay pretty much the same, with the exception of lip products which I tend to change up a bit more regularly :)

However, since moving into my own place with my own bath, I have ventured into the world of Lush bath products and am wondering how I ever lived without them.
Candy Mountain Bubble Bar - £2.65

I have honestly never had a bath with so many bubbles, this bubble bar is great and worth every penny. I used probably 1/4 of the bubble bar which left my bath full the the brim with bubbles my bathroom smelling like a sweet shop. It's a good job this product can be used multiple times as I have to wait until Christmas time to repurchase - I will definitely be bulk buying this next year!

Space Girl Bath Bomb - £2.25

Definitely my favourite product from this review, probably because it smells and looks like a parmaviolet sweet (one of my favourites). It turns the bath water purpley-blue/ red and fills the room with a sweet fruity smell. It is one of the cheaper bath bombs and is great value for money. I will definitely be repurchasing this.

Snow Fairy Sparkle Massage Bar - £4.95

I'm a lover of the snow fairy shower gel and so had to try the Snow Fairy Sparkle Massage bar. I wasn't sure how to use it so I ended up using it in the shower as soap which was a big fail! I then read a few reviews and realised you were actually supposed to massage the bar onto your dry skin after showering.I tried using it the right way and loved it - it leaves the signature Snow Fairy smell on your skin all day and is really moisturising. It is a bit pricey for its size but it is the smell is amazing and it is a fun treat.

Rose Queen -£2.75

This rose-scented bath bomb leaves your skin silky smooth and smelling great for hours. As this fizzes in your bath, it turns the water a baby pink colour and releases flower buds and petals. If you don't have much time to clean your bath afterwards, I wouldn't recommend buying this product as I spent a good five minutes after picking out the leftover flower buds. The scent was amazing however I don't think I will repurchase this product - I am not a fan of floating flowers in my bath water.

I am yet to try the Tisty Tosty Bath Bomb and Dreamtime Luxury Bath Melt so stay posted for a review of these products. Let me know which Lush products are your favourite :)

After reading endless skincare blogs and watching countless YouTube video reviews, I decided to take the plunge and buy the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser, and I am so very glad I did! I have dry/combination skin and this works perfectly for me. The muslin cloths remove any excess dead skin cells and leave my face feeling soft and smooth without having to use a harsh exfoliator.

I have never been great at keeping to skincare routines, mainly because I'm very lazy, but now I have a found a cleanser that works really well for me, I actually enjoy cleansing and keeping to my skincare routine! I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who is in search of a great cleanser. It is a bit pricey at £14.75 for a 100ml starter kit, but in my opinion, it's worth it as the results are fantastic!

Let me know what your favourite skincare items are as I am always keen to try new things
